As the second smallest city in England, Ely is compact enough to explore on foot, but offers a wealth of things to do.  The magnificent cathedral, known locally as "the ship of the Fens" can trace its origins back to AD673, is famous for its unique Octagon tower, which when lit, can be seen for tens of miles.  Take a tour of Kings College, the largest and most spectacular of the college chapels in Cambridge, and afterwards, explore Cambridge on your own.  You may like to visit the Fitzwilliam Musuem, take a punt, a Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour or indulge in some retail therapy!  Explore Anglesey Abbey, a wonderful Jacobean style house with its unique collection of paintings and objects, set in the magnificent grounds of an Augustinian priory and a working watermill.
